Our
prayers guide
the hearts of
authorities in
government.
Pray
for the authorities,
police and
justice system
to make wise
decisions.
2Chr
7:14
If
my people, which are
called by my name,
shall humble
themselves, and pray,
and seek my face, and
turn from their wicked
ways; then will I hear
from heaven, and will
forgive their sin, and
will heal their land.
This assures
us that as we humble
ourselves before God in
prayer and fasting, pray
with all our hearts,
seek God’s face until
He reveals
Himself to us, and
diligently, by faith,
turn from our iniquities
and sins, then God will
hear from heaven,
forgive our sins and
heal our land.
Eph
6:17-20
17
And take the
helmet of
salvation, and
the sword of
the Spirit,
which is the
word of God:

Praying always
with all
prayer and
supplication
in the Spirit,
and watching
thereunto with
all
perseverance
and
supplication
for all
saints;

And
for me, that
utterance may
be given unto
me, that I may
open my mouth
boldly, to
make known the
mystery of the
gospel,

All authority stems
from God.
Our
prayers guide
the hearts of
authorities in
government.
Pray
for the authorities,
police and
justice system
to make wise
decisions.
All
authority stems from God and
in each nation He has
appointed a group of people
known as “The
Government” to control and
preserve society. The
Government carries the
authority of GOD.
Pray for authorities
in government,
and the
Supreme Court so
we can live
peaceably and get on
with our job
to bring
salvation to
society.
Romans 13:1-7
1
Let every soul be
subject unto the higher
powers. For there is no
power but of God: the
powers that be are
ordained of God.
2 Whosoever
therefore resisteth the
power, resisteth the
ordinance of God: and
they that resist shall
receive to themselves
damnation.
3 For rulers
are not a terror to good
works, but to the evil.
Wilt thou then not be
afraid of the power? do
that which is good, and
thou shalt have praise
of the same:
4 For he is
the minister of God to
thee for good. But if
thou do that which is
evil, be afraid; for he
beareth not the sword in
vain: for he is the
minister of God, a
revenger to execute
wrath upon him that
doeth evil.
5 Wherefore
ye must needs be
subject, not only for
wrath, but also for
conscience sake.
6 For for
this cause pay ye
tribute also: for they
are God’s ministers,
attending continually
upon this very thing.
7 Render
therefore to all their
dues: tribute to whom
tribute is due; custom
to whom custom; fear to
whom fear; honour to
whom honour.
Pray for
the government as
God’s Ministers, that
they will:
1. let us
live peaceably,
2. punish
evil doers and restrain
evil,
3. use the
tax money rightly, Rom
13:4,6.
4. become
a righteous
government for
God.
Pray
for revival.
Pray
for revival
to sweep the
country, that
hearts all
over the
country would
be turned to
worship the
Lord, the God
of heaven and
earth. Psalm
85
Psalm 85 2-3
2 Thou
hast forgiven
the iniquity
of thy people,
thou hast
covered all
their sin.
Selah.
3 Thou
hast taken
away all thy
wrath: thou
hast turned
thyself from
the fierceness
of thine
anger.
Pray
for God’s
favor ( grace
) on the
nation.
Pray
for God’s
favor ( grace
) on the
nation, that
it would be
measured by
the standards
of the Word of
God and His
character, so
that others
may learn of
Him and His
grace and
love. Job
12:23-25
Job
12:23-25
23
He increaseth
the nations,
and destroyeth
them: he
enlargeth the
nations, and
straiteneth
them again.
24 He
taketh away
the heart of
the chief of
the people of
the earth, and
causeth them
to wander in a
wilderness
where there is
no way.
25 They
grope in the
dark without
light, and he
maketh them to
stagger like a
drunken man
Pray
that evil
influences is
put down.
Pray
that evil
influences
will be
thwarted. Pray
that the
influence of
wicked,
corrupt, or
self-serving
men and women
will be
replaced by
the influence
of those who
are focused on
the needs of
others and not
on their own
gain.
Eph
6:12
For
we wrestle not
against flesh
and blood, but
against
principalities,
against
powers,
against the
rulers of the
darkness of
this world,
against
spiritual
wickedness in
high places.
Pray
for protection
from natural
disasters and
aggression
by other
countries.
Pray
for protection
from natural
disasters. The
Lord sometimes
allows natural
disasters as a
means of
getting a
people’s
attention.
Pray that such
extreme
measures would
not be
necessary, but
that the
people of the
nation – and
especially
God’s people
in the nation
– would humble
themselves
voluntarily
under the hand
of God. If
natural
disasters
occur, pray
that
government and
other
responses
would be
timely and
helpful. Isaiah
29:6; Matthew
24:7
Pray
for protection
from
aggression by
other
countries. Pray
also for
security in
the nation,
specifically
that the
borders would
be secure and
that those
bent on evil
would not be
able to enter
the country.
Isaiah
29:6 Thou
shalt be
visited of the
LORD of hosts
with thunder,
and with
earthquake,
and great
noise, with
storm and
tempest, and
the flame of
devouring
fire.
Mat
24:7 For
nation shall
rise against
nation, and
kingdom
against
kingdom: and
there shall be
famines, and
pestilences,
and
earthquakes,
in divers
places.
GOD
rules in the
hearts of men.
Why
should we
submit to a
government
that we
believe is
going in the
wrong
direction?
You
love your
country and
want to submit
and cooperate
with the
political
system,
As
long as we can
do so without
denying Jesus
Christ or
compromising
our faith, we
must always
strive to
cooperate with
the ruling
powers.
God is
sovereign over
human events.
At the same
time, He gives
people the
freedom to
make their own
choices and go
their own way.
No one
can become a
king,
Governor,
President,
Prime
Minister, or
Senator apart
from God’s
will. But this
doesn’t mean
that
possession of
political
power amounts
to a stamp of
approval from
GOD. After
all, the Bible
calls King
Nebuchadnezzar
God’s servant.
This obviously
does not imply
that
Nebuchadnezzar
was a godly
man.
Jeremiah
25:9
Dan
2:21 And
he changeth
the times and
the seasons:
he removeth
kings, and
setteth up
kings: he
giveth wisdom
unto the wise,
and knowledge
to them that
know
understanding:
Dan
4:16 Let
his heart be
changed from
man's, and let
a beast's
heart be given
unto him; and
let seven
times pass
over him.
Dan
4:17 This
matter is by
the decree of
the watchers,
and the demand
by the word of
the holy ones:
to the intent
that the
living may
know that the
most High
ruleth in the
kingdom of
men, and
giveth it to
whomsoever he
will, and
setteth up
over it the
basest of men.
GOD is
always in
charge. We may
not trust the
authorities in
government,
but we have to
trust GOD. we
can
demonstrate
that trust in
GOD by
cooperating
with the state
and
authorities.
Our
prayers guide
the hearts of
authorities in
government.
Pray
for the authorities,
police and
justice system
to make wise
decisions.
For these reasons
God commands every citizen
to be obedient to the
governing authorities. Those
who resist the government
are resisting the ordinance
of God.
Our obedience to the
government is showing honour
and respect to God.
Government’s
responsibility.
The
Bible refers to our
government as the ministers
or servants of God, Rom
13:4,6. God has given
to them three overall
responsibilities:
1. to do good
for the people of the nation
which includes maintaining
law and order and peaceful
co-existence, Rom 13:4,
Ac 24:1-3, Ac 21:31,32.
2. to punish
evil doers and restrain evil
practices, Rom 13:4.
3. to collect
taxes which are to be used
for the organisation and
function of government, and
to provide services to meet
the needs of society, Rom
13:6,7,
Mat 22:17-21.
Church’s
responsibility is to
bring salvation to
society.
The
government is responsible to
control and preserve society
while the church’s
responsibility is to bring
salvation to society. In the
days of Paul, the government
of the Roman Empire, under
Caesar, had established a
general atmosphere of peace
known as “Pax Romana.” They
had constructed an excellent
system of Roman roads for
orderly travel while Greek
and Latin were the lingua
francas for easy
communication,
Act 21:37, Luke
23:38.
1Tim 2:1-8
1 I exhort
therefore, that, first of
all, supplications,
prayers, intercessions,
and giving of thanks,
be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for
all that are in authority;
that we may lead a quiet and
peaceable life in all
godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good
and acceptable in the sight
of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all
men to be saved, and to come
unto the knowledge of the
truth.
5 For there is one
God, and one mediator
between God and men, the man
Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a
ransom for all, to be
testified in due time.
7 Whereunto I am
ordained a preacher, and an
apostle, (I speak the truth
in Christ, and lie not;) a
teacher of the Gentiles in
faith and verity.
8 I will therefore
that men pray every where,
lifting up holy hands,
without wrath and doubting.
Paul
exhorts us to engage
in all manner of
prayer and giving
thanks.
In
this passage Paul exhorts us
to engage in all manner of
prayer and giving thanks,
for all people, for kings
and all that are in
authority, 1Tim
2:1-2
The reason God’s
Word exhorts us to pray for
those who govern us is so
that we may lead a quiet and
peaceable life in all
godliness and reverence.
When this is the
state of affairs in our
society God is pleased
because His desire to see
all people saved and come to
know the truth is
much more likely to
come to pass, 1Tim 2:3-4
God has provided the
Mediator, Jesus, and He gave
His life as the ransom price
for our souls, 1Tim
2:5-6
God
appointed Paul to preach
this message to the
Gentiles, and Paul urges the
men to focus on prayer so
that God’s desire will be
fulfilled, 1Tim
2:7-8
The “men” are
singled out because the
women pray anyway. The men
are frequently “too busy
getting the job done,” too
busy to pray.
1Pet 2:13-17
13 Submit yourselves
to every ordinance of man
for the Lord’s sake: whether
it be to the king, as
supreme;
14 Or unto
governors, as unto them that
are sent by him for the
punishment of evildoers, and
for the praise of them that
do well.
15 For so is the
will of God, that with well
doing ye may put to silence
the ignorance of foolish
men:
16 As free, and not
using your liberty for a
cloke of maliciousness, but
as the servants of God.
17 Honour all men.
Love the brotherhood. Fear
God. Honour the king.
Peter adds his
teaching on this subject. We
are to obey every regulation
of the government whether
central or local. In this
way, by doing good,
we put to silence
those who oppose the
preaching of the
gospel, and set forth
an example of service to
God. Our attitude should
be to honour every
person,
love the
believers in Christ,
fear God with all our
heart and dutifully
respect those who rule
over us in society.
Mat
5:16,
Let your light so
shine before men, that they
may see your good works, and
glorify your Father which is
in heaven.
1. Our attitude to
the government over us is a
reflection of our attitude
to God, Rom 13:2,5, 1Pet
2:17.
They are His
appointed representatives
and carry the authority of
God, Rom13:1,2.
2. Whether or not we
agree politically with the
present government, we need
to pray for them, honour and
respect them as “God’s
ministers,” Rom 13:4,6.
3. Refuse to join
with others in criticising
or ridiculing the
government, 1Pet 2:17.
Pray for the
government as God’s
ministers to us, that they
will:
1. do us good,
2. punish evil doers
and restrain evil,
3. use the tax money
rightly, Rom 13:4,6.
Righteousness
are the foundation of
God’s Throne, and that
mercy and truth are before
His face.
1. God’s
Throne God
spoke to David and told him
that those who rule over
society must act justly and
in the fear of God.
Pray that our
government will act in this
way, 2 Sam 23:3.
2. In situations
involving people in
authority, we have found
that praying Ps 89:14
is powerfully effective.
Psa
89:13-15
13
Thou hast a mighty arm:
strong is thy hand, and high
is thy right hand.
14
Justice and judgment are the
habitation of thy throne:
mercy and truth shall go
before thy face.
15
Blessed is the people that
know the joyful sound: they
shall walk, O LORD, in the
light of thy countenance.
Psalm 94: 20-23
20 Can
unjust leaders claim that
God is on their side —
leaders whose decrees permit
injustice?
21 They gang
up against the righteous and
condemn the innocent to
death.
22 But the
LORD is my fortress; my God
is the mighty rock where I
hide.
23 God will
turn the sins of evil people
back on them. He will
destroy them for their sins.
The LORD our God
will destroy them.
This verse says that
justice and righteousness
are the foundation of God’s
Throne, and that mercy and
truth are before His face.
In our prayer we
pray that these things will
be established in those who
have authority over us, and
in the Name of the Lord
Jesus Christ that
injustice, unrighteousness,
mercilessness and lies will
be destroyed and cast out.
Jud
1:13-16
13 Raging
waves of the sea,
foaming out their own
shame; wandering stars,
to whom is reserved the
blackness of darkness
for ever.
14 And
Enoch also, the seventh
from Adam, prophesied of
these, saying, Behold,
the Lord cometh with ten
thousands of his saints,
15 To
execute judgment upon
all, and to convince all
that are ungodly among
them of all their
ungodly deeds which they
have ungodly committed,
and of all their hard
speeches which ungodly
sinners have spoken
against him.
16 These
are murmurers,
complainers, walking
after their own lusts;
and their mouth speaketh
great swelling words,
having men's persons in
admiration because of
advantage.
No
government or
authority can stop
us from preaching
the Gospel.
Should
any government ot authority
over us decree that we act
in a way that is contrary to
the revealed will of God
through His Word, then we
must
firmly but
respectfully refuse to obey
them. Instead we are to obey
God. We see an example of
this in Act 4:13-33,
where Peter and John and the
believers
refused to stop
preaching the Gospel even
though the Jewish leaders
commanded them to, Act
4:18.
Act 4:
17-20
17 But that
it spread no further among
the people, let us straitly
threaten them, that they
speak henceforth to no man
in this name.
18 And they
called them, and commanded
them not to speak at all nor
teach in the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter
and John answered and said
unto them, Whether it be
right in the sight of God to
hearken unto you more than
unto God, judge ye.
20 For we
cannot but speak the things
which we have seen and
heard.
Mat 22:21 They
say unto him, Caesar's.
Then saith he unto them,
Render therefore unto
Caesar the things which
are Caesar's; and unto
God the things that are
God's.
The end result of
this was imprisonment and
punishment, Act 5:17-42,
on the one hand, but great
boldness, miracles and many
souls saved on the other, Act
5:11-16.
Our attitude to
God’s appointed government
in our land is a key to
releasing the revival we
desire and pray for.
Tit 3:1-3
1 Put
them in mind to be subject
to principalities and
powers, to obey magistrates,
to be ready to every good
work,
2 To
speak evil of no man, to be
no brawlers, but gentle,
shewing all meekness unto
all men.
3 For
we ourselves also were
sometimes foolish,
disobedient, deceived,
serving divers lusts and
pleasures, living in malice
and envy, hateful, and
hating one another.
Col 4:6 Let
your speech be alway with
grace, seasoned with salt,
that ye may know how ye
ought to answer every man.
2Pet
2:7-13
7 And
delivered just Lot, vexed
with the filthy conversation
of the wicked:
8 (For
that righteous man dwelling
among them, in seeing and
hearing, vexed his righteous
soul from day to day with
their unlawful deeds;)
9 The
Lord knoweth how to deliver
the godly out of
temptations, and to reserve
the unjust unto the day of
judgment to be punished:
10 But
chiefly them that walk after
the flesh in the lust of
uncleanness, and despise
government. Presumptuous are
they, selfwilled, they are
not afraid to speak evil of
dignities.
11 Whereas
angels, which are greater in
power and might, bring not
railing accusation against
them before the Lord.
12 But
these, as natural brute
beasts, made to be taken and
destroyed, speak evil of the
things that they understand
not; and shall utterly
perish in their own
corruption;
13 And
shall receive the reward of
unrighteousness, as they
that count it pleasure to
riot in the day time. Spots
they are and blemishes,
sporting themselves with
their own deceivings while
they feast with you;
Rom
12:16-21
16 Be
of the same mind one toward
another. Mind not high
things, but condescend to
men of low estate. Be not
wise in your own conceits.
17 Recompense
to no man evil for evil.
Provide things honest in the
sight of all men.
18 If
it be possible, as much as
lieth in you, live peaceably
with all men.
19 Dearly
beloved, avenge not
yourselves, but rather give
place unto wrath: for it is
written, Vengeance is mine;
I will repay, saith the
Lord.
20 Therefore
if thine enemy hunger, feed
him; if he thirst, give him
drink: for in so doing thou
shalt heap coals of fire on
his head.
21 Be
not overcome of evil, but
overcome evil with good.
Eph 4:4 That
we henceforth be no more
children, tossed to and fro,
and carried about with every
wind of doctrine, by the
sleight of men, and cunning
craftiness, whereby they lie
in wait to deceive;
Mar 16:17
And these signs shall follow
them that believe; In my
name shall they cast out
devils; they shall speak
with new tongues;
Mar 16:18
They shall take up serpents;
and if they drink any
deadly thing, it shall not
hurt them; they shall
lay hands on the sick, and
they shall recover.
Why do we give
thanks to God before
eating food?
Those who worship
the Lord on a special day do
it to honor him. Those who
eat any kind of food do so
to honor the Lord, since
they give thanks to God
before eating. And those who
refuse to eat certain foods
also want to please the Lord
and give thanks to God.
1Ti 4:3
Forbidding to marry, and
commanding to abstain from
meats, which God hath
created to be received with
thanksgiving of them which
believe and know the truth.
1Ti 4:4
For every creature of God is
good, and nothing to be
refused, if it be received
with thanksgiving:
1Ti 4:5
For it is sanctified by the
word of God and prayer.
2 Tim 2:4 No
man that warreth entangleth
himself with the affairs of
this life; that he may
please Him who hath chosen
him.
2 Cor 10:4
The weapons of our warfare
are not carnal, but mighty
through God to the pulling
down of strong holds.
Isa 54:17 No
weapon formed against you
shall prosper, And every
tongue which rises against
you in judgment You shall
condemn. This is the
heritage of the servants of
the LORD, And their
righteousness is from Me,”
Says the LORD.
Pray
for the poor in
spirit.
Mat
5:3 Blessed
are
the
poor in spirit: for
theirs is the
kingdom of heaven.
Mat
5:4 Blessed are
they
that mourn: for they
shall be comforted.
Mat
5:5 Blessed are
the
meek: for they shall
inherit the earth.
Mat
5:6 Blessed are
they
which do hunger and
thirst after
righteousness: for
they shall be
filled.
Mat
5:7 Blessed are
the
merciful: for they
shall obtain mercy.
Mat
5:8 Blessed are
the
pure in heart: for
they shall see God.
Mat
5:9 Blessed are
the
peacemakers: for
they shall be called
the children of God.
Mat
5:10 Blessed are
they
which are persecuted
for righteousness'
sake: for theirs is
the kingdom of
heaven.
Mat
5:11 Blessed are ye, when
men
shall
revile you, and
persecute you,
and
shall say all manner
of evil against you
falsely, for my
sake.
Mat
5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding
glad: for great
is
your
reward in heaven:
for so persecuted
they the prophets
which were before
you.
